Digimarc Barcode: A Quantitative Model of Labor Cost Savings for Retailers
BY Geoffrey Karr
Digimarc recently released a new white paper detailing the potential cost savings retailers could realize with the complete adoption of the Digimarc Barcode. By looking at data from the top 120 grossing retailers, and several benchmarks provided by government census data, Digimarc has used various assumptions to create an ROI calculator that lets retailers put in their own numbers and estimate how long it would take for them to zero out the cost of implementation of the Digimarc Barcode and begin to see additional profits created through the efficiency bonuses generated by increased check out speeds.
When clerks no longer have to search for the barcode on packaging labels, and need only run the package across the scanner from any angle, checkout is sped up, leaving clerks with more time for other tasks, and higher levels of customer satisfaction. Spread across large retail chains, these gains can translate into big savings and a healthier bottom line.
